Episode 7: Grab a Spoon

Podcast

Extra pretend points if you think of Friends at today’s title πŸ™‚ Not so much if you think Matrix.

I was really impressed with the number of songs I found for this episode–once again I had so many that it was tough to pare this episode down to just over an hour! Of course, when one of your keywords is ‘eat’ you learn just how many times those 3 letters show up in sequence in the course of music listings (hint: “featuring”, “death” and a host of other things had to be weeded through to find a few honest-to-goodness food songs). It’s not all bad, though–I found some great things hiding here and there for the next 2 podcasts!

In all, I probably listen to about 300 songs for each podcast and then pick out the dozen or so songs that best amuse me, rock it out or just amuse me. Here’s this month’s tasty morsels:

Food–Dierdre Flint
Thanks–Youngblood Brass Band
So, Thanks–Tom Smith
Pockets Full of Gold–Danika Holmes
A Girl Should Never Eat Alone–Clayton
Healthy Eating–Dan Elson
Salad of Doom–SJ Tucker
Eat You Now–The FuMP/Robert Lund & Spaff.com
My Baby Likes to Eat–Alec Berlin
French Fries Overdose–The Great Potatoes
Salt–Diedre Rodman/The Lascivious Biddies
Let’s Eat Home–Linda Baker
Everybody’s Family is Messed Up–Kristen Kitko
Twisted Family Ties–Delina
Sorbet Girl–Subplot A
Gluten Free Blues–Kyle Dine
Sugar Bomb Baby–Industrial Salt
Coffee to Go–Alice Leon/The Alice Project
Cold Turkey Sandwiches–Sealed Weasels

Wondering how you make turkey gumbo from leftovers and bones? I got you covered over at Nibbles ‘n Bites.

Episode 6: Songs That Go Bump in the Night

Podcast

Welcome back, music fans! This installment feels more like an episode and a half–I just couldn’t bring myself to cut any more songs out of the play list!

We’ve got some old favorites among the artist list, this month: Josh Woodward, MixMasterMandy and Calabrese all made the cut once again along with a slew of new-to-me artists that I’m happy to have stumbled across in my search for Halloween-themed music. And, just because it seemed fitting, I included a short story by yours truly just before the 1 hour mark.

Hope you enjoy!

In this episode:

Happy Halloween–Ben Twisted
Costume Party–CAMIL
What Should I Be on Halloween–Eric Strom
PC Halloween–Devo Spice
Married a Magician–Dust Poets
A Rabbit for Halloween–Marc Gunn
Halloween (remix)–The Coffinshakers
Midnight Spookshow–Calabrese
Monsters–Common Ground
Vampire in My Town–Elsinore
Skeletons and Spirits–Allison Crowe
Madam Fright–The Hamsteaks
Zombie Werewolf Alien Vampire Monsters—The Volume Brothers
Vampires–The Wet Darlings
The Witching Hour–Robin Brock
The Howl–Thee Merry Widows
Warm–MixMasterMandy
Halloween Girl–Ghosts on the Radio
Howl at the Moon–Devi
Halloween–Fishing for Comets
Halloween Mistake–Cantrip
Gallows Hill–Josh Woodward
The Bottom of the Grave–Bryan Scary

Hear something you like? Tell your friends! Something you didn’t? Tell me! I can’t improve if I don’t know what’s lacking!

Until next month…

Episode 5: Back to School

Podcast

Ah, yes, Fall… turning leaves… big yellow school buses… and crazy, half-asleep drivers.

Welcome to September, folks!

This episode was more fun to put together than I expected it would be and it certainly takes the sting out of what could be a rather trying time of year. I rant a little about the traffic the buses and driving students and parents on new routes all contribute to but mostly it’s upbeat–I liked school! Sometimes I miss it (man things were simpler then, weren’t they? didn’t feel that way at the time, but… hindsight is 20/20 they say).

And, of course, there’s plenty of music to choose from, let’s consider this Music Appreciation 101:

Wake Me Up When This Math Class Ends–Project Sisyphus/The FuMP
Like A Book–Carrie Catherine
Autumn–A Band Called Quinn
Learn to Fly–Josh Woodward
Class Clown–Steve Robinson
The Traffic Song–The Alice Project
West School Mitch–AudioUK
Haven’t Learned A Thing–This is a Shakedown/Amy Speace
The Understudy–MixMaster Mandy
What Have You Learned–Carbon Leaf
High School–Testosterone
Carpe Diem–Pillar of Autumn
Do We Learn–Janita
The Class of 68–Bill Guy
This Time Next Year–Classic Tragic Hero
Peaked in High School–Jeff Mallon
Reform School Girl–Nick Curran and the Low Lifes
Language School Lover–Dead Mans Corner

If you like what you’ve heard, pass it along to your friends. If you didn’t like something, let ME know in the comments–after all, I can’t learn and improve without feedback πŸ™‚ (You can, of course, also tell me what you liked…)

See you next month! I’m off to start picking the tunes for it right now! (Yes, it will be Halloween themed, if you were wondering.)
