What’s In Your Purse?

64 Arts

For the last several years almost all of my purses have been big and red and from Liz Claiborne. Not that I pay department store prices, or even retail! I find them at places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx or Bealls Outlet and pay half (or less) of the usual price. There’s just something about a show-stopper red purse that can carry whatever I need and look fabulous doing it. Plus, it matches pretty much everything by needing to match absolutely nothing!

As promised, here’s what was inside my purse as of Monday evening:

What's in My Purse?

What's in My Purse?

Clockwise from the upper left corner:

  1. Tome of Runes (my first illustration credit–it came in last week and I’ve been carrying it around because I’m just so tickled it’s done!)
  2. Monthly planner (stuffed with store coupons in case I feel like shopping) and postage stamps (yes, I mail things–not bills, though, that’s what online banking is for!)
  3. My Red Notebook (everything from budgets to project notes to podcast playlists–it’s my life and I go through one a year, always red)
  4. Travel Amulet
  5. iPod (in red case… are we sensing a theme, here?), charger and ear buds
  6. Calculator and 6 pens (I highly suspect at least one is dead or broken)
  7. Prescription sunglasses
  8. A sash from the skirt I wore 2 weeks ago
  9. Ginger pills and Lactaid tablets
  10. Wallet, smaller card case, coin purse and passport
  11. Umbrella holding down a stack of store receipts
  12. Keys and a separate ring of those store scanner tabs
  13. Nail file, tweezers, compact, 5 lip glosses (3 tinted, 2 clear) and 3 hair clips (that’s where they all went!)

The only thing not pictured is my cell phone–when I’m home it’s usually on my computer desk or on it’s charger.

Now, who else played along?

*crickets*

Sigh…

Whoever thought it’d be so difficult to give stuff away!

But, hey, it’s my giveaway and I’m going to give it another try. That’s right, I’m extending the deadline.

You have until Sunday, October 24, 2010, at 8pm Eastern do the following:

  1. Dump everything out of your purse (arranging it nicely is optional)
  2. Take a picture of it
  3. Upload the picture to some public place (your blog, Facebook, Flickr, etc.) and leave me the link in the comments OR email it to me at randomactscomics@gmail.com

See, it really is that simple. And I’ll pick one purse photo at random of those submitted and the owner of that purse will win a prize that I will mail to you. It will be purse-themed. It will be a mix of store-bought and hand-crafted items. You will either love it or decide it would make the perfect regift for the neighbor/teacher/co-worker at some point in the upcoming holidays, thus saving you a shopping trip–that parts up to you.

Now, go find that camera!

  1. I normally just toss my purse in the back of the car so I know it’s there if I need it, then take it out when I get home. normally I carry a tan leather and red tartan bag by Nine West that I bought at a thrift store in NY for like $3. lol You can see it in this photo ( http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ehs9R9-vx2k/SxQjSagcBCI/AAAAAAAAIw0/-6XuKfBBVXw/s320/PB300001.jpg ). I carry my Olympus SP-560uz digital camera, a liberty of london notebook, a pen, my white blackberry curve, my pink ipod shuffle, Burt’s Bees chapstick (honey this time), my wallet that hubby bought me a while ago (black with cherries on it) and a changepurse my BFF bought me a long time ago, it’s turquoise with white anchors on it. Usually a claw clippy thing for hair and at least two hair bands. I’f I’m reading a book at the moment that isn’t huge I’ll slip it in there just in case I get a chance to read it. I also like to take a little bottle of hand sanitizer with me too but at the moment it’s in the car and not in the purse. my dl, insurance stuff, barnes & noble membership card, military ID etc are all in the wallet. Nothing too terribly exciting really.

  2. I want to do it!!
But I don’t think I have time before Sunday to get it together. Boo. I might just have to do a post like this next week for the heck of it. How fun!

Recently I downsized. I used to only carry massive bags and they would get so full of stuff and I could never find a thing in there. My purse contents are actually pretty boring right now.

  3. Wow, Scraps, you have very pretty purse contents. I almost thought you were WAY too organized and neat to be real, then i saw the stack of receipts under the umbrella, and felt a bit better πŸ˜‰

I’ll try and get a photo of mine… but I’m seriously scattered lately and am likely to forget. (which is why I decided to comment now, and maybe you’ll nag me )

  4. I missed the whole part about the giveaway when I read this on my BB, sometimes I have trouble controlling the scroller. I posted when I got home without rereading it. I DId notice that my change purse was gone when I emptied the purse to take a picture, lol no idea where that ran off to and I forgot about my body bugg and my hot pink mini maglight which I had to use to light the pic so it’s not in the photo. I used hubby’s phone to take it so it’s dark and fuzzy… sorry!

    1. Dark and fuzzy is okay with me (just spent the evening taking pictures at the Greek Food Festival–not the best lighting so lots of dark and fuzzy for me, too). It all counts!

I’m impressed you don’t have more in that spacious bag–I have to be careful which ones I purchase because I will fill them up, quickly!

  5. sorry was just looking around to possibly get hubby a new ipod and I guess thats an ipod nano? lol I always thought it was the shuffle because all it DOES is shuffle… LOL… either way its the cheap-O one but waned to be correct!

  6. i like the extra space. If I need to stick the video camera or the laptop in there I can. I’f I’m reading a large book I don’t have to worry about the fit or anything. It’s also good if we are at a flea market or something it can take any small purchases or like today I had to add gloves, a scarf and my water bottle.

    1. Good point! I do like larger bags for that sort of thing, but if they’re my everyday bag I’ll end up with sore shoulders–not to mention broken straps on the bag itself.

  7. After being ever so politely not-nagged-but-encouraged by dear Scraps (as I’d requested!) Here’s my what-do-you-mean-its-not-still-summer purse & contents. (It’s a lot cuter than it looks in this photo).

Contents include a stack of misc. lists, receipts and “stuff”… my wallet/checkbook, spouse’s wallet/checkbook (huh? why do i have that?) nifty cool keyring, a hank of glass kitty beads, hair clip & band, lipstick (so thats where that was) NaNoWriMo book, e-Reader, Airborne, TicTacs, writing implements, the ring off of a soft drink of some sort and 13 cents.

Not nearly as bad as expected, so I shoved it all back in there, except for the book/ereader πŸ˜‰

And thanks for the nag-i-mean-gentle-nudge-reminder, Scraps!

    1. Okay, I’ve seen some like that but they’ve all been a basic “diamond” bauble. Your’s is much more awesome.

I’m on the hunt for a good key chain. I had the split ring styles and I had a gift-with-purchase from Clinique that was a great solid ring with two prongs that fit in the clasp–like those plastic buckles on backpacks and such. The clasp fell off a couple weeks ago and I haven’t found it yet–luckily I didn’t lose any of my keys! I’ve decided I need to find the blanks for this style and make my own chain parts. It’s on the ever-growing list πŸ™‚

  8. I love these posts. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one with three books in my purse, alog with everything else I think I’ll need throughout the day. I’ll have to do one of these.

    1. Isn’t it great how we feel comforted knowing that while we’re each unique, we’re not all that different?

A woman’s purse (and the contents therein) are integral to her being. Sure, we might be able to get by with a card case or wallet in our pocket (if we have a pocket) but it’s not the same thing at all.

  9. I’m sorry I missed this one, how fun! My purse is such a mess though, no one would have been able to really make out what was in there anyway!

    1. Oh, too bad! But, you know, you had a lot going on πŸ˜‰

And I wouldn’t be too sure on that–I think a lot of people have a tiny voyeur streak: the same thing that makes us curious about what’s in someone’s medicine cabinet, etc.

  10. My purse is a black hole. Once something goes in, it is hard to find anything in it again. Next time I’ll have to get one that doesn’t have black material inside. There are always a zillion receipts and papers from my children as they seem to think my purse is theirs!

    1. Receipts are my downfall, too. I’ve been known to buy a new purse and just leave the old receipts, etc. in there (like some sort of fashion file cabinet) rather than actually clean it out.
