With the wedding recaps complete (i.e. my Weddingbee posting-frequency commitment* fulfilled) I now have the opportunity to get back to a somewhat regular posting schedule and, right now, it looks something like this:
- Mondays: Nibbles or Sips post
- Tuesdays: Reviews
- Wednesdays: 64 Arts
- Thursday: Gingerbread Diaries
- Fridays: ???
Goodness knows I have plenty of random things to talk about but as far as a plan, Friday’s are open season. Some weeks might feature projects (or peeks at those in progress but not yet ready to reveal), illustrations or sketches, creative business plan stuff, or just (like today) a list of stuff that I’m really into lately.
*Which I was more than happy to do–after all, it’s what I signed up for! An unforeseen consequence of merging the niche blogs, though, was the feeling that the wedding recaps were taking over everything else.Â
Australian TV Series via Netflix
Producers Down Under are making some very good television and thank Netflix for making it available! First I stumbled upon Satisfaction, which is on the racier side as it’s about the women who work at a Melbourne brothel, but it’s got great character development and is just fun to watch (most of the time, at least, there are some very sad things that happen, of course, just like in all dramas).
Next was Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries–Phryne Fisher is a female detective in Jazz Age-Australia; its like Poirot but not nearly as subtle. So far Netflix only has the first season available and I am waiting not-so-patiently for the second to show up in my queue. (I’ve even contemplated a subscription to Acorn through our Roku device just to see them sooner!)
Finally, I just finished watching all three seasons (series) of Dance Academy. No, I was never a ballet dancer (there’s actually a kinda sad/silly story why I never took dance lessons as a child) but I’ve always loved books, movies, and television shows about dancers. Dance Academy is sorta like Center Stage, but younger and more expanded. I bawled at the end of Season 2, but still loved it to pieces. The kids are so earnest and their struggles seem real enough (not even the main character gets the win every time) and it was just so engrossing. I watched all 65 episodes within the last month (then again, they’re only 24 minutes each).
Rewatching Favorites
Until I find my next Australian fix, I’ve been enjoying playing through my DVDs of Gilmore Girls. I have the first 4 seasons at my disposal (which is good, since neither Netflix nor Amazon Prime has it available for streaming). I could be wrong but after that it started to get twitchy in the college years (i.e. Logan) so just as well that I stopped there (I watched til the bitter end when it was still airing, for the record).
New Toys!
During the Right Brainers in Business Summit I had sort of a worlds-colliding moment when one of the spotlights (and a RBBiz Licensed Facilitator) turned out to be a mixed media and book artist, Kiala Givehand. She created this really cool Inspiration Deck for mixed media art and I just had to order it and give it a try. I frequently get the ‘don’t know what to do’ feeling when I stare at the blank page of my art journal, so I thought these cards could help get me over that hump. They did and you’ll get to see the first page created with their help in next week’s Gauche project!
Looking Forward To…
Game of Thrones Season 2! Yes, I know I’m behind. Frankly, I tried to read the first book ages ago and all the world-building and set-up bored me to tears. I remembered Tyrion and The Wall, pretty much, and really wasn’t all that into watching the series (it helps that we don’t have HBO, either) until a friend of ours suggested doing binge-watching with friends. So tomorrow is our next Thrones-a-Thon and we’re starting with the first 4 episodes of Season 2. I’m enjoying the show more than I expected, but I wouldn’t consider myself a true fan of the series just yet. But it’s fun getting together to watch with friends, food is pot-luck and we have a good time.
Okay, that’s is for me this week. What have you been enjoying or looking forward to this week?
